The king found a lake of miraculous water that cured his boils and tumors. It was named Akaleshwar Tirtha. The fort and the city grew up in the surrounding area as Ballarpur or Ballal City. For many years, Ballarpur was the capital of the Gond kings, Chandrapur city was established later. The last Gond king, Nilkanth Shah, died in prison at Ballarpur. Now the fort is surrounded by ruined walls and has an ornate entrance. There is a folk tale of undiscovered tunnels in the walls of the fort.
