    Janani Suraksha Yojana

    Brief information about the scheme:-

    • The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has implemented the Janani Suraksha Yojana in rural areas of the state from 2005-2006, replacing the National Maternity Benefit Scheme.
    • Objective of the scheme: – To increase the rate of deliveries in health institutions of women below the poverty line and belonging to Scheduled Castes and Tribes in rural areas of the state and to reduce the rate of maternal mortality and infant mortality.

    Beneficiary:

    The said pregnant woman from rural areas should belong to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe. The pregnant woman from other categories should be below poverty line. The age condition of the said beneficiary woman has been relaxed. The condition of having a child has been relaxed while providing the benefit of this scheme.

    Benefits:

    A lump sum of Rs. 700/- is given to the beneficiary residing in rural areas after coming to the institution for delivery and for seven days after delivery. A lump sum of Rs. 600/- is given to the beneficiary residing in urban areas after coming to the institution for delivery and for seven days after delivery. Every effort is made to ensure that the beneficiaries of the Janani Suraksha Yojana deliver in the institution, but in exceptional cases, if the delivery takes place at home, a benefit of Rs. 500/- is given to the Janani Suraksha Yojana beneficiary. The officer of the institution/area in which the delivery took place should give the benefit to the Janani Suraksha Yojana beneficiary. If the delivery takes place in a private health institution, the benefit of the said scheme will be given if it is a government recognized institution, otherwise the benefit will not be given Beneficiary Under this scheme, a subsidy of Rs. 1500/- will be given to the beneficiary who undergoes a caesarean section only after the beneficiary submits the hospital receipts. Out of the total receipt amount, up to Rs. 1500/-, the said amount will be given directly to the beneficiary without giving it to the institution. If a caesarean section is performed in a private health institution, the institution must be government approved.

    How To Apply

    Eligible pregnant beneficiary should go to the nearest health facility and register with the health worker before delivery and prepare the Janani Suraksha Yojana card along with the registration card.
    Caste certificate stating that the applicant belongs to Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe.
    Certificate stating that the family is below the poverty line.
