Salient Features of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme :- Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme- Maharashtra, is different from other development scheme of Govt. Compared to other schemes, the scheme has gained a different importance due to the rights provided to the villagers by law. The salient features of this scheme can be mentioned as follows.

As the implementation of the scheme is being done under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005 of the Central Government, the law has placed restrictions on the implementation of the scheme. Every person above 18 years of age living in rural areas who is willing to do manual labor (unskilled) work is given the right to ask for work by law and is bound by law to provide work as requested. There is no distinction between men and women. There is a special provision in the law for the weaker sections. In addition to providing the benefits of personal benefit scheme, there is a suggestion to issue job cards of specific color to destitute women, disabled persons, disabled persons, disabled laborers and special weaker sections of tribals as per the amendments made in Schedule 1 and 2 of the Central Government Act. So that it will be convenient to give work to such persons according to their physical capacity. The right to work scheme has been achieved by making it mandatory for the implementing system to provide work to a person above the age of 18 if they are asked for work by law. As the law provides 100 days of work to a family, the family is guaranteed to get 100 days of work. Even though the central government has guaranteed 100 days of work, the state governments have gone further than that to provide work for 365 days. According to decentralization, the gram sabha has got the right to plan the development work of its own village. Wages are provided commensurate with the work done, so remuneration is commensurate with the work done. The scheme prohibits working through contractors. The scheme provides for depositing the wages of laborers in bank or post account. Wages are not paid in cash. If the work is not available within 15 days after the employment, the laborer is entitled to unemployment allowance of 25 percent of the wage rate. If the wages are not paid to the laborer within 15 days after the end of the attendance sheet, a delay compensation of 0.05 percent is admissible from the 16th day after the end of the attendance sheet. d. If the wages are not paid within the prescribed period as per Government Decision dated 26th February 2014, the State Government shall pay the compensation due to the delay and thereafter the District Magistrate/Chief Executive Officer or the officer authorized by him shall make a detailed inquiry into the delay and recover the compensation amount from the officers/employees responsible for the same. will recover.
